Big News On Last.fm

Posted by Philip on January 23rd, 2008 — 6:54pm

I don’t often post short blogs like this, but this is huge news and I felt compelled to share it right away. Starting from today you can stream full length tracks/albums for free on Last.fm. You won’t be able to do this with all the music on the site, but it looks like they are constantly adding more.

Right now you can only play each song three times, and there will be a subscription service in the future that will allow you unlimited plays. And here’s the really revolutionary thing – artists will be paid directly every time one of their songs is streamed. It remains to be seen if the subscription is affordable, but if it is then this is really a huge step forward.

If eventually the Last.fm application on my Ipod Touch includes streaming of full songs then my mind will literally be blown.

I’m chanstheorem on Last.fm, add me! You can find the other guys’ usernames here.

You’re going to smile

Posted by Philip on January 22nd, 2008 — 10:07pm

A hug is one of the greatest gifts you can give to someone. Love, comfort, trust – some of the many things you can show to someone with just one hug. I dare you to try and not smile when you watch this video.

Tomorrow, go out and hug someone, anyone. And really mean it.

An idea for an mm project? Join the movement.

I am Chris, Chris is Legend.

Posted by Fake Chris Porter on January 22nd, 2008 — 1:35am

So I thought it was about time I wapped it out and blogged something.

I got up today at about 1pm after a late night sesh with Baldur’s Gate. Before I got out of bed, I played some Championship Manager. I really love Champ Man because it’s like playing maths, and I study maths even though Michael and Phil are still better at it than me. I changed the font today on the stats screen to comic sans. I can’t wait to talk to Michael and Thomas about it at lunch time on the steps outside the common hall.

Anyway, after I played for a bit, I decided it was time to work on the guns and do some digging. Then I came across this story. What a strange coincidence:

a) I support the Giants, and

2. Everybody knows that I’m a huge fan of Big Willy. I quite like Will Smith too. LOLZ.

Anyway, I hope the Giants don’t lose on Sunday.

Shit. I just lost the game.

The End – Superburrl I

Posted by Michael on January 21st, 2008 — 1:32pm

Game: NFC Championship & Superburrl I decider

Venue: Lambeau Field, Green Bay, Wisconsin, Northern United States

Temperature: -23°C (burrrrrrrrrr)

It was Championship Sunday last night. First up were a great San Diego Chargers team up against probably the greatest team ever, the New England Patriots. Of course the Patriots won again to go 18 – 0 and got through to another Super Bowl. Next up? Jamesy’s Packers were up against Chris’s Giants (and it’s not often you get to call anything of Chris’s giant!) The winners would claim the Lomburrdi Trophy.

Green Bay have been unimpressive all season but ended up 13 – 3 so my criticisms end there. As for the New York Giants? The notorious chokers? The jerks from Jersey? The team whose regular season included results such as a 41-17 home loss to the Vikings? What were the chances they would not only be tied with 4 seconds left, nevermind miss the field goal and then still win in overtime? Now I’m no mathematician, but Chris is, so apparently the chances were good.

New York Giants 23
Green Bay Packers 20

So the congrats go to Chris, winner of Superburrl I. They’ll probably be biggest underdawgs ever going into a Super Bowl, but once again the NFL has shown us that you just never know…

‘God on the Tyne’

Posted by Thomas on January 17th, 2008 — 12:00pm

Normally I’m very critical of Newcastle fans for letting their hearts rule their heads. But for once I’ve fallen in line with the Geordie faithful. There’s something about Keegan’s return that just makes the hairs on your back stand up and gets the blood rushing. Keegan could do no wrong when at the Toon in the 1990s, leaving the club in 4th place, just off top place, with a squad of immense talent and playing exciting, fast, and simple football.

The Keegan times had players like Beardsley, Ginola, Shearer, Ferdinand, Rob Lee, and that waltzing centre-half Phillipe Albert, not to mention Tino Asprilla and Gillespie. That’s more attacking football than you can shake a stick at. And contrary to what’s usually levelled at our defence, the team could defend under Keegan…it just didnt normally want to.

I’d love it, love it if he could work miracles again. If he turns this side round he will deserve to go down in football history as a great manager. If he fails, it’s sure going to be a hell of an emotional ride.

Welcome back King Kev
